Class 101 DMU at Between Ash and Wanborough

Unknown date

With the two power cars being stripped of most of the roof vents, a Class 101 (which appears to be set L842) is seen on a Reading - Gatwick service in the early 1990s. It appears to have been taken from the bridge at Pound Farm Lane between Ash and Wanborough. David Rowe.

Class 101 DMU at Hatton Bank

15th September 1998

While on Dark Lane bridge at Hatton on 15 September 1998 I was surprised to see a class 101 DMU coming down the bank from Hatton station. It turned out to be 101842 with cars 53321 + 53314 providing the power and traction for test coach Iris, 975010, the AEC engines in which rarely seemed to be in operation. Peter Tandy.

After withdrawal the power cars from set L842, 53314 + 53327, were used as tractor units for Test Car Iris (975010) due to maintenance issues with its AEC engines. Here the trio are seen stabled at Cardiff Central on 21 October 1998. Robert Thomas.
