Class 126 DMU at near Challoch Junction

10th August 1973

Two Class 126 DMUs (SC51025 appears to be leading) work the 08:30 Glasgow - Stranraer service seen 1/2 mile north of Challoch Junction (where the line from Castle Douglas met the line from Girvan) on 10 August 1973. Michael Mensing.

Class 126 DMU at Ayr MPD, Scotland

2nd May 1978

In BR blue livery Class 126 DMSL SC51025 is stabled on Ayr MPD on the 2nd May 1978. Delivered in October 1959 Ayr would be the only depot she was ever allocated to being withdrawn from there in August 1982 and scrapped by Mayer Newman Scrapyard, Snailwell, Cambridgeshire during November 1983. Bob Woolnough.

Class 126 DMU at Largs, Ayrshire

circa 1979

Set number: 126418

Swindon 3-car "Intercity" Class 126 DMU 126418 (DMS SC51025 nearest camera) at Largs with a train for Glasgow Central - c.1979. 53A Models of Hull Collection.

Class 126 DMU at Girvan

5th July 1979

Instamatic Interludes. Class 126 at Girvan waiting for the off. There’s time for the signalman to chat to the driver before the 08:35 Glasgow Central to Stranraer Harbour heads south, facing a stiff climb to the summit (and tunnel) at Pinmore, thence the intermediate station at Barrhill. There always seemed to be a yellow track machine stabled in the siding in the distance. The line was double track as far south as Girvan but by that time it had been singled from Belmont Crossing (Ayr) with an intermediate passing loop at Kilkerran. The red signs at the foot of the signals proclaimed ‘Token Working’ with Girvan presumably being the limit of ‘Tokenless Block Working’ from Kilkerran. Note the car just peeping out next to the ‘box, coincidentally, the same colour as the signalman’s jumper … and what would today’s H&S brigade think of the footware? Well, it is summer! Thursday 05 July 1979. alicia hartman.

Class 126 DMU at Stranraer Harbour

17th September 1981

Set number: 126418

Two three-car Swindon Inter-City units with 51025 closest at Stranraer Harbour having just arrived from Glasgow on 17th September 1981. David Scott.

Class 126 DMU at Glasgow Central

1982

Set number: 126418

Unit 126 418 heads a 6 car set departing Platform 13 of Glasgow Central for Ayrshire in 1982. Andrew McConnell.

Class 126 DMU at Prestwick

1982

Set number: 126418

126 418 at Prestwick in 1982. One of the last few Intercity sets in its last summer of operation. Andrew McConnell.

Class 126 DMU at Glasgow Central

1982

Set number: 126418

126418 in Glasgow Central, probably taken in 1982. Intermediate power car Sc51025 is closest, one of only a handful to carry the set number on the plated-over gangway, on most sets only the DMBS carried this detail. Ian MacDonald.

Class 126 DMU at Beith North

circa 1982

Set number: 126418

A Swindon Inter-City at Beith North, just north of Glengarnock with Sc51025 leading, circa 1982. As the DMBS vehicle determines the unit number it was unusual for a Swindon DMS to carry it and Sc51025 unusually (and incorrectly in this period) carried 126418. It did however make the vehicle easy to identify even in blurry shots 30-odd years later... Andrew McConnell.

Class 126 DMU at Glasgow Central

circa 1982

Set number: 126418

One of the few Class 126 intermediate power cars to carry a set number, Sc51025 is seen in Glasgow Central station circa 1982. Andrew McConnell.

Class 126 DMU at Ayr Townhead

May 1982

Set number: 126418

End of Days. Swindon Inter-City Sets stored at Ayr Townhead Yard. 126 418 is one of the few with the identity displayed on the DMSL (presumably Sc51025). The DMSL to the right looks suspiciously like preserved Sc51017 which may have been part of 126 408 at that time. Summer 1982. alicia hartman.

Class 126 DMU at Smithy Lye

1st June 1982

Set number: 126418

The Papal visit to Bellahouston Park in 1982 required the use of a large number of extra trains - as a result most of the then surviving Class 126 units were mobilised. Sc51026 is seen here in the (now former) carriage sidings at Smithy Lye on 01/06/82. As the DMBS vehicle determines the unit number, it was unusual for a Swindon DMS to carry a set number. Andrew McConnell.

24th October 1982

Scrapper. Swindon Class 126 Sc51025 Intermediate Driving Car buffered up to Leading Driving Car Sc51034 at Falkland Yard, Ayr. The vehicles are awaiting stripping and boarding up. Sunday 24 October 1982. alicia hartman.
