A 3-car Gloucester Cross Country set with W51099 leading is assisted up the Lickey Incline hauled by 8400, the latter allocated to this task. The 119 continued unaided from Blackwell. Assistance up the incline was likely required owing to the tail load (not visible in this particular photo) being carried, 5/10/63. Dave Hill.

One of Chester's GRC&W sets (CR558) arrives at Shrewsbury station off the Wolverhampton line. No date, but the leading vehicle DMS M51099 was noted in plain blue by March 1967. Note that it does not have white cab roof dome unlike the DMBC at the far end. Graham Clark.

Class 119 DMU set B596 (51099 + 59416 + 51076) stands at Weymouth Town station having just arrived with train 2O58 the 13.00 from Westbury via Yeovil Pen Mill on September 17, 1983. When this was taken the station at Weymouth was in something of a time warp with cream and green "southern railway' colours still adorning the buildings. Adrian Nicholls.

Taken at 17:14, a late afternoon Up service for Paddington on the Relief Line at West Ealing station. 31st March 1992. On the 3rd December 1992 51099 is seen at Leicester on the 15:04 to New Street. It is a two-car set, and although still labelled as L596 it is now T596 and the other power car should be 51076. Mark Fletcher.

Stored in the sidings at Blackpool North class 119 car 51099 awaits its fate on 27th January 1995. The markings on the cab front show that this vehicle was one of those used on the construction of the Channel Tunnel for the conveyance of workers. Ian Buck.

After reversal at Worcester Shrub Hill on 29 March 1986 class 119, identifiable by the red stickers denoting extra luggage space when used on trains to Gatwick Airport, set B596 (presumably 51076 + 59416 + 51099) was routed around the sharp curve towards Worcester Foregate Street and onward to Malvern and Hereford. The structure unfortunately only part-visible in the foreground is thought to be the remnants of a World War 2 air-raid shelter, complete with flue for a heating stove, for use by railway staff. ABirmingham to Hereford train is seen arriving at Worcester Shrub Hill on 29 March 1986. This time it is class 119 set B596 (51076 + 59416 + 51099) which will reverse in the platform. The driver has been a bit quick in changing the lights on the leading vehicle from white to red prior to coming to a halt. The small signal arm on the gantry was lowered to allow 08781 to leave the station a few minutes later to the site once occupied by the shed. Peter Tandy.
