Class 116 set C313 (presumably 50847 + 59040 + 50900) grinds up the Rhondda from Pontypridd with a Sunday service from Penarth to Treherbert approaching Trehafod. 13/2/1977. Stephen Burdett.

On 6th August 1979, car no. W50847 was only three weeks out of works, hence its smart appearance. My notes for the day quote it as working the 12.45 Cardiff - Merthyr & 14.00 return, but this latter service appears to be a through train to Barry Island if the destination blind is correct. Cars 51087 59040 53847 are seen awaiting departure from the then platform 5 at Newcastle with an evening commuter service, 16/9/87. The front car is Class 119, the other two are Class 116. Adjacent in the then platform 4 are Mk 1 coaches (distinguishable from DMU stock by the window frames and Commonwealth bogies), probably a locomotive-hauled Pacer substitution - these were invariably three coaches in length, and their positioning relative to the DMU suggests a locomotive may be 'trapped' at the buffer stops.
