Class 101 centre car W59538 is seen in a Class 117 DMU set at Southall depot on 9 July 1973. Originally allocated to the North Eastern Region it was one of the first Met-Camm DMU vehicles to be allocated to the Western Region in January 1967. Alistair Ness.

On November 10, 1973, the Western Region ran a ten-car DMU 'London Branch Lines Tour' from Paddington. It comprised a 3-car 118, 3-car 117 and 4-car 117 set L464 that contained 101 centre car 59538, seen here beside 51407 during the stop at Morris Cowley. Hamish Stevenson.

It comprised a 4-car 117 set L464 with a 101 centre car (51407 + 59538 + 59517 + 51365), 3-car 117 (51398 + 59508 + 51356) and a 3-car Class 118 (51305 + 59472 + 51320).
