Details

This was the scene just to the south of Bromsgrove station on 27 July 1989 taken from the bridge known to most local photographers as "Garringtons". At the time the station had a single platorm on the up side meaning that the few trains that called there had to cross over to collect passengers.

A single unit, on this occasion 55034, was the usual accomodation for the modest number of passengers on the Birmingham to Worcester services that called here: a situation that had been the case for a number of years.

Prominent in the picture are the Lickey Bankers, 37071 + 37032, waiting either for a freight that needed a shove up the 1/37 of the incline or an ailing locomotive or unit needing assistance. The view here in 2021 has changed almost beyond belief with electrification of the line, a new 4 platform station, the removal of the oil terminal and the inevitable construction of multiple housing estates.
