 DMU

February 1966

During investigation of excessive wear in the torque convertors of the Class 127 units, M51622 was fitted with test equipment which caused the cardan shaft to break up near Napsbury on 9 February 1966. The debris ruptured the fuel tank on it and the adjacent vehicle M51632 which caught fire. It is seen here afterwards at Cricklewood (London Midland Region negative DL3835). M51622 is probably the vehicle on the left. Both vehicles would be repaired. British Railways.

The cleared semaphore Starter signal indicates that the road is set for an outer suburban dmu train as it proceeds southwards to St Pancras from Cricklewood's neat Midland station on 26th February 1977. Today the line is electrified - the dmus are replaced by emus and the semaphores are replaced by colour lights. The station buildings are long gone, replaced by bus shelter type waiting rooms. Pete LG99.

 DMU

27th February 1977

A Class 127 heads across the River Brent viaduct at Cricklewood en route to St Pancras on 27th February 1977. It is about to go under the North Circular Road bridge. This is a telephoto shot from the pedestrian steps up to the North Circular and the foreshortening belies the fact that the viaduct here carries 6 tracks. The concrete slabbing on the left is the M1 cutting wall. Pete LG99.

 DMU

27th February 1977

Cricklewood North London on 27th February 1977 and a dmu arrives from the north into the station with a St Pancras service on a sea of trackwork past a forest of semaphore signals (do forests grow in seas???). A rather different everyday scene from today's. Pete LG99.
