SPS Railtour. Intermediate Driving Cars Sc51026 (126 413) nearest and Sc51017 (126 406) coupled cab to cab on Platform 1 after a shunt from Platform 3. The Ayrshire Wanderer shunt took place during the lunchbreak at Largs. Derby 107 434 awaits departure with a service for Glasgow Central from Platform 2. Saturday 09 October 1982. alicia hartman.

Class 107s & 126 Largs 9 Oct 1982 The 'Ayrshire Wanderer' railtour was organised by the Swindon Preservation Society (SPS) and used the same name as the previous year's BLS tour doing exactly what it said on the headboard. The class also remained in service for a bit longer than planned after the tour which had meant to see them being withdrawn from service the following day. Here we see the train at Largs with Sc51043 closest, one of the vehicles the SPS would purchase the following year for preservation. Alistair Ness.

Class 101 & 126 Largs 9 Oct 1982. The Met-Camm is set 101323, presumably 50148 closest. The Class 126, Sc51036 in view, was on the 'Ayrshire Wanderer' railtour. It's Not Unusual. Perhaps, but it's a late Saturday afternoon and Swindon 126 413 has deposited a handful of passengers at Largs after arriving on a service from Glasgow Central. DMBSL Sc51043 is nearest the camera with DMSL Sc51017 recorded at the rear. TSL is presumably Sc59404. This is probably the reformed Set 413 (with DMSL swapped from the other remaining operational Set 406) prior to preservation. December 1982. alicia hartman.

End of Days. Late Saturday afternoon and Swindon Inter-City 126 413, with DMSL Sc51017 nearest, idles at Largs on Platform 2. A hybrid DMU formed SC52003 + SC59565 + SC52035 in Largs station waiting to depart to Glasgow Central on 28 December 1983. Just a few days later 52003 would be caught in a fire in Ayr depot and withdrawn. Brian Daniels.
Ayr Variety. Largs station and an Ayr allocated BRCW Class 104 DMS Sc53525 is sitting at Platform 3. A Class 116 is visible in the background in the siding adjacent to Platform 1. However, the centre road has been lifted and is probably in advance of full scale track rationalisation and electrification. Probably January / February 1985. alicia hartman.

In 1985 Class 116 DMU sets 116 392 + 116 388 wait to leave Largs with 2T20 the 10.52 to Glasgow Central. This once four platform station had by this date already been reduced to 2 and the DMU's were replaced by class 318 EMU's with electrification in 1986. Adrian Nicholls.

Former Cardiff Canton operated Class 120 DMBC No.51782 has just terminated at the Scottish Coastal town of Largs on the 1st August 1986 from where she will return to Glasgow Central as the rear vehicle. Still marked up as C616 from her time at Cardiff she also still wears a yellow “First Class” yellow stripe above the first 3 windows of the coach and a central headlamp between her cab windows.
