Passing right in front of people's houses, E52096 arrives at a very dull Hull on 23rd February 1980. The semi-derelict housing along Selby Street does nothing to lift the feeling of gloom. The footbridge from which this photograph was taken is still there, but all the houses have long been demolished. Syd Young.

1984

A Metro-Cammell dmu heading north out of Selby station is about to cross the swing bridge over the River Ouse before curving east & heading for Hull in 1984. The East Coast Main Line branched off northwards to York approx half a mile beyond the bridge until 1983 when the Selby Diversion was built to avoid any subsidence problems caused by the new "Super Pits" mining the coal beneath the area. Traffic through the station was much reduced following the opening of the diversion with only these Hull trains remaining. The signal box appears to be out of use & certainly the semaphore signals have gone by this time. The four-track section through the station reduced to two across the bridge. By 1984 the through tracks were little used and rusted & today have been lifted. Pete LG99.
