On this silver engine the starter motor is held in place by a bracket at the gear end - a modification from the original design. The fuel pump is not the original version nor the compressor top, this is probably a 680/1595 variant. British Rail.

The first nine feature a silver painted engine, this image is taken from the fluid flywheel end. The red bracket to the rear - along with links that will be bolted through the holes to either side of the fluid flywheel - were the main fixings to the underframe. All the fixings were through rubber bushes to allow movement, the damper and the small swing link also connected to the underfame to restrict that movement. Date taken unknown - possibly 1980?
