Class 114 New Holland Pier, September 1977. Before the opening of the Humber Bridge, services ran from Grimsby and Barton on Humber to connect with the ferry to Hull. Both services used the single platform ; the two coaches nearest the camera are the Grimsby to Barton on Humber service, with the two coaches behind working in the opposite direction. Tony Watson.

1st September 1977

Seen at Garforth, Leeds, is a two-car Class 114 and a three-car (possibly a BRC&W set) with 1M68 0804 Garforth to Blackpool 1st September 1977. They have run ECS from Neville Hill and are crossing over into the Up platform to form the Blackpool train, this was a way of providing extra seats from Garforth and Cross Gates into Leeds in the morning rush and also keeping a platform free at Leeds. 25th October 1977

A 2-car Class 114 DMU (vehicles 56047 + 50030) calls at Edale working the 12.20 Sheffield-New Mills on 25 October 1977. The 2 vehicles had a long working life on BR. 50030 was new (to 40A Lincoln) on 24 January 1957, and was withdrawn from TS Tyseley on 4 October 1987. It was scrapped at MC Metals, in Glasgow. 56047 was new (also to 40A) on 17 April 1957 and was withdrawn from TS on 4 October 1989. It is now preserved on the Strathspey Railway. Lewis Bevan.

28th October 1977

A Class 114 DMU (vehicles 50009/56009) at Skegness having arrived as the 08.44 from Nottingham on 28 October 1977. Both of these vehicles were new to 40A Lincoln on 20 November 1956, and ran as a unit for many years. 50009 was withdrawn while still at Lincoln on 29 June 1988, and was scrapped by Mayer Newman, of Snailwell. It's erstwhile partner, 56009, was transferred to Tyseley, and then to Chester, and was withdrawn on 24 May 1991. 56009 was scrapped at MC Metals, Glasgow. Lewis Bevan.

A Class 114 DMU with DTCL E56043 closest (the DMBS is possibly E50001) in Sheffield station, date unknown. Paul Redmond.

1978

New Holland Pier station in 1978 with a class 114 awaiting departure. Note the coal wagons which supplied fuel for the paddle steamers operating the Humber Ferry which carried both vehicles and foot passengers to and from Hull Corporation Pier. John Clark.
