A Marylebone-bound class 115 DMU calls at Gerrards Cross in May 1980. The line was opened in 1906, a joint venture built by the Great Western & Great Central Railways. The line through here was rebuilt towards the end of the 1980s and became double track, with the platform extended over the two right-hand lines. Kevin Lane.

An Aylesbury-Quainton Road shuttle-service, consisting of a 4-car Class 115 DMU (51869 + 59675 + 59654 + 51661), waits at Quainton Road station for passengers returning to Aylesbury after attending the Bank Holiday Open Day (May 26, 1980) at what is now known as the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. Prior to the Rocket 150 cavalcade at Rainhill on May 26th 1980 and with spectators getting into position for the main event, an 8-Car Class 115 Suburban DMU pairing was approaching Rainhill station with one of the many shuttle services running from Manchester Victoria. Driving Motor Brake Second M51677 in refurbished livery was bringing up the rear, the other vehicles in its four-car set still carrying Rail Blue, whilst in the leading set, three cars were in refurbished colours with one intermediate car in Rail Blue. 26th May 1980

Following the final day of the three-day Rocket 150 Cavalcade at Rainhill on Monday 26th May 1980, and with the crowds gone, an 8-Car DMU lash-up on one of the frequent shuttle services from Manchester Victoria, consisting of a Class 115 suburban set an a pair of two-car Class 108's, were passing one of the grandstands being prepared for dismantling. The leading car was Rail Blue liveried Class 115 Driving Motor Brake Second M51860. The Morris Marina Van in the right foreground was belonging to the company that had installed the PA system for the commentary (done by Alan Pegler) during the cavalcade. Martyn Hilbert.

M51889 leads a four-car set into Harrow-on-the-Hill on an Aylesbury to London Marylebone service. This car is in "blue band" livery, the second is all-over blue and the third is blue/grey. These Derby High-Density suburban units were introduced from 1960 on the Chiltern routes. A silly bit of trivia is that these units, having been designated class 115 in the TOPS scheme, found themselves working services on Table 115 when the GB Passenger Timetable book was created in 1974.
