A Swindon Class 123 Inter-City vehicle inside Swindon Works in the summer of 1967. This is thought to be W52086, the first of the class to be so treated. David Faircloth.
A rather forlorn Swindon InterCity DMBS W52086 at Doncaster circa 1980. It has had its B4 bogies removed, it is sitting on what was probably reclaimed Mk1 bogies for its trip to Snailwell. Stuart Pearce.

One of my very few encounters with a Trans Pennine dmu set was that day, 20/9/81. Here I am waiting at Doncaster as the 12.45 from Manchester Piccadilly arrives with Class 123 E52087 leading. Now this was not one of the genuine Trans Pennine cars of course and was a 1977 transfer from the WR. I recall these units when I lived at Kingsbury in 1964. They were then in green livery but with the end connecting doors painted yellow which gave rise to my nickname for them of 'Ironing Board Units'. I think they worked Derby to Cardiff trains or something similar in those days. Anyway this terminating service was to form my train forward to Sheffield at 15.10. Gerard Fletcher.

1976 was famous for the amazing Summer but March was a bit grim as seen on the 12th at Cardiff. L711 is arriving (presumably 52091 at the front), in the set was 59823 and completed the set for me! Remember when they kept dmu's together? The loco, by deduction, is probably 47504. It doesn't really matter at this distance in time. It's Cardiff and it's 42 years ago! Arnie Furniss.
