Class 101 Kingsknowe May 1984. A Glasgow Central to Edinburgh train arrives from the west. This was Edinburgh's only proper style road level crossing - the one at South Leith has a strange arrangement of gates and the one at Duddingston & Craigmillar went in the 60s when the freight line to St Leonard's closed. Sadly the box and traditional level crossing gates at Kingsknowe had had gone by the early 80s. Alistair Ness.
Class 107 Slateford Road May 1984. This was the view looking north from my fourth floor living room window overlooking the Haymarket to Slateford section of line as well as the Caledonian Brewery which is still open today and makes a lovely pint of Deuchars IPA. Here an Ayr Derby heads for Edinburgh Waverley with a train from Glasgow Central. Alistair Ness.
Class 104 Edinburgh Waverley June 1984. A BRCW DMU awaits departure. Haymarket depot was unique in having some of their older stock of Cravens and BRCW units repainted from Rail Blue into Blue and Grey as they kept them in service for much longer than other parts of the country. Many of these areas had reverted to loco hauled stock and at least our Dundee workings retained locos and coaches. Alistair Ness.
