Creating a haze of exhaust fumes a morning Paddington - Maidenhead stopping service gets away from the station stop at Taplow on the last leg of its journey, formed by one of RG depots famous temporary hybrid sets. This time a Class 121 'Bubble Car' has replaced Class 119 driving trailer W51083 in Set L573, giving a formation of W55024+W59417+W51055. I think it is fairly safe to assume that as W51083 was officially withdrawn in mid March its running days were already over when this picture was taken. 12th February 1988. Nigel Mack.

Having not long arrived with an afternoon service from St Albans, a CW allocated 4 Car Class 127 Diesel Hydraulic DMU set, sits in Platform 7 at St Pancras awaiting its next duty, with a rather unusual paint job on the leading vehicle M51615 (Which seems to have been applied for an unknown reason around Sept 1979) .... Withdrawn from Cricklewood on 7th August 1983, it was converted to a Parcels vehicle and renumbered to 55975 from May 1985 and allocated to Longsight. Final withdrawal came four years later and it was scrapped by Vic Berry's at Leicester .... 7th September 1982. Nigel Mack.

Apparently fitted with a replacement cab from a Class 116 DMU. Class 117 DMS 51396 leads another RG allocated hybrid formation - running as set L417 - through Iver Station whilst forming the 0935 Reading - Paddington service ... 51396+54280+51354. 17th August 1988. Nigel Mack.

The 1045 Sheffield - Cleethorpes service runs into Scunthorpe Station formed of Class 114 pairing E53019+E54010. In approximately three weeks time the leading vehicle, E53019 will be transferred to Tyseley, ending a 26 years association with Lincoln Depot ..... 14th September 1987. Nigel Mack.

Photographed from the Signal Box at West Ruislip, the 1538 Marylebone - High Wycombe service approaches West Ruislip station formed of two Class 115 DMBS/Class 108 DTC units M51849+M54274+M54271+M51878. The first two vehicles had arrived at ME in January, from TS. 23rd April 1987 Nigel Mack.

After working a morning service into Manchester Piccadilly, Chester allocated Class 108/104 hybrid unit CH 371 formed of M53925+M59155+M52039, runs ECS towards Levenshulme on its way back to Stockport, for stabling .... 20th June 1989. Nigel Mack.

Two two-car DMU sets approach the north end of Audley End North Tunnel with an up working on 11 November 1970. Closest is a Class 100 DMBS, paired with a driver-trailer from a different class (it has Air-Vac vents). Nicholas T Smith.

The Southern Electric Group 'Dorset Dawdler' railtour included an almost three hour break at Maiden Newton which allowed participants the opportunity to travel on the Bridport branch on the last day of operation - 3rd May 1975. The railtour headboard was carried on the branch service train, formed of B407 (51345 + 59497 + 51387) and B133 (55033), seen arriving into Powerstock station. Nicholas T Smith.

W51345 trails on Class 117 DMU set B407 (with 59497 + 51387), W55033 leads at the far end, departing Powerstock station with a Bridport-Maiden Newton service. The service was normally operated by a single car but strengthened as this was the last day of passenger trains on the Bridport Branch - 3rd May 1975. Nicholas T Smith.

The scene in the high level platforms at Queen St station in Glasgow, around about 17.25 on 11/6/88. Set 104 457 (53556/59228/53504) waits to form the 17.37 to Dunblane. 53504, still with its Buxton white cab roof, is nearest the camera. Leonard Rogers.

Set 120 535, on the right with 53733 leading 59065 and 53215, leaves Edinburgh Waverley on 9/4/88, forming the 15.10 to Dunblane. As it does so, it passes set 120 532 (53699/59571/53658), coupled to 120533 (53682/59532/53700) which is not visible. These latter two sets will form the 15.13 to Cowdenbeath. Leonard Rogers.
