D173 Gearbox

These were manufactured by A.E.C., are were only used in some of the early Yellow Diamond vehicles.

This was a four-speed epicyclic gearbox. The image shows the input (left) and output (right) ends.

They were fitted to these DMUs, all having 150hp AEC engines:

• Derby Lightweights 79008-46, 79150-4 and 79508-12
• Met-Camm Lightweights 79047-82

The Derby Lightweights sets were for West Cumberland, Lincolnshire, East Anglia and the four-cars for Newcastle.
