(e) Ash Trays - Birmingham Carriage & Wagon Co's. 3-car sets - Noted that complaints have been received from the public and that the Carriage & Wagon Engineer reports ash trays as useless.  Carriage & Wagon Engineer to advise all firms concerned that this type of ash tray is unsuitable and for those in service to be replaced, when convenient, with an improved type.

(f) Engines idling for long periods at terminals - Noted that this is due to throttle motor trouble and that arrangements have already been made for alterations to be made to the throttle motors.

543   RAIL BUSES FOR RURAL AREAS

1.  Design - Noted that it has been accepted by all concerned.  Carriage & Wagon Engineer, Doncaster will be responsible for spares. Delivery of four buses for L.M.R. expected to commence in January 1958.

2.  Proposals for employment of four rail buses on L.M.R.- Preliminary report proposing employment on following lines considered. - Agreed not necessary at this stage for submission to be made to B.T.C. but scheme to be costed.

Bedford - Hitching
Bedford - Northampton
Blisworth - Northampton

3.  Banbury - Bletchley service.  Noted that Director of Traffic Services has question of the withdrawal of the passenger service from branch under consideration but agreement of East Midland T.U.C.C. not yet obtained.

D.T.S. to give consideration to the use of the vehicles if passenger service withdrawn.

544   INTER-CITY TRAINS

1.  Design of units.  Accountant's assessmment of comparative costs of Liverpool, Leeds, Bradford service with different types of units noted. Information supplied by Accountant to be sent to Officers of B.T.C. concerned with view to a further meeting being held to decide type of engine to be adopted.

2.  Liverpool, Leeds, Bradford scheme.  Revised submission being prepared but cannot be completed until decision reached regarding type of engine to be adopted.
