563   RAIL BUSES FOR RURAL AREAS (Cont'd)

3.  Banbury - Bletchley service - Question of withdrawal of passenger service on this branch is still under consideration and Accountant is preparing costings.  Possibility of employment of diesel units, if they become available, on the Buxton - Millers Dale branch is under investigation.

564   INTER-CITY TRAINS

1.  Design of units

(a)      The Chairman stated that Messrs. Harrison and Harris have jointly reported on this question. Additional information has been sent to the B.T.C. Technical Officers and a further meeting has been arranged for Wednesday, March 12th (see also Minute 562.3)

(b)      Noted that B.T.C. have agreed, that is Regions desire, the stock for inter-city trains can be constructed with a clear front and rear view but at the very initial stages Regions to indicated their desires in this respect.

2.  Liverpool-Manchester-Leeds and Hull scheme (via L.N.W. route)

Mr. Gould reported that a meeting has been arranged with the N.E. Region regarding this scheme.

565   SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE ARRANGEMENTS

1.    Minutes of meetings of Sub Committee held on the 19th January and 18th February, 1958 noted.

The Chairman referred to the maintenance and servicing arrangements for the units for the Derby, Nottingham and Leicester Part 1 scheme which is due to commence in April, 1958 and asked for all departments concerned to give very special attention to this question as it is most desirable that adequate facilities should be available for the commencement of this scheme on the agreed date.

2.    Outstabling of units alongside platforms - Noted that when engines are cold it is necessary to have ground level access to both sides of motor vehicles in order to hold the throttles open for a short time to build up air pressure, etc., and difficulty is experienced when vehicles are stabled in station platforms.

Mr. Baked said that some changes in design necessary and comments of C.M.& E.E. are awaited.

3.    Planning of diesel multiple unit depots - Noted that B.T.C. Works and Equipment Committee have decided that only in very exceptional circumstances would schemes including covered accomodation in excess of 15% of the vehicles allocated be approved.
