565   SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE ARRANGEMENTS (Cont'd)

4.  Capital cost per vehicle for maintenance, fuelling and inspection - Noted that B.T.C. have decided that in future submissions seeking authority for capital expenditure on the provision of maintenance, fuelling and inspection facilities an indication should be given of the approximate capital cost per vehicle included in the scheme.

5.  Carriage Washing Machines - The Chairman stated that a small washing machine for passenger road vehicles had been inspected, and requested that the Operating Officer consider a trial with one of these machines, possibly at Ryecroft.

6.  Cockshute Diesel Maintenance Depot - Mention was made of difficulties which are being experienced at this depot owing to the Motive Power Department declining to allow washing operations of diesel units being performed inside the depot.  Mr. Baker will submit a report for consideration.

566   SCHEMES AUTHORISED BUT NOT YET IN OPERATION

1.  Manchester Part 1 (Certain services not yet in operation)

Mr. Gould stated it was desired to extend the Manchester Part 1 scheme by the introduction of services between Crewe an Shrewsbury for which two 2-car units would be employed.  As considerable economies would result it was agreed this service be introduced.

2.  Derby-Nottingham-Leicester Part 1 Scheme

Scheme will be commenced on 14th April, 1958. Delivery of units from contractors now completed. (see Minute 565.1 re maintenance facilities).

567   SCHEMES UNDER CONSIDERATION BY COMMITTEE BUT NOT YET SUBMITTED TO B.T.C.

1.  North Wales Part 3 {Wrexham, Chester and New Brighton)

Preliminary report already considered and scheme being re-examined.

2.  Liverpool Lime Street-St.Helens-Wigan

Preliminary report already considered and scheme being revised on the basis of the use of 238 H.P. Rolls Royce engines.
