596. SCHEMES IN COURSE OF PREPARATION BUT NOT YET CONSIDERED BY COMMITTEE
Western Division
(1) North Wales Part 2 (Local Services in N.Wales etc.)
Central Division
(1) Liverpool, Manchester, Bradford and Leeds
(2) Manchester Part 3 (North East Lancs.)
(3) Manchester Part 4 (South West Lancs.)
(4) Manchester Part 5 (North West Lancs.)
Midland Division
(1) St.Pancras Suburban. - The Chairman stressed the importance of this scheme as a profitable proposition and a substantial quick modernisation project. As there was a possiblilty of the units being built in 1959 it was essential that the design of the vehicles be settled and the full scheme progressed. Noted that a meeting was being held on July 16th to finalise the details of design, after which the submission would be ready in one week and could then go to the Area Board in August. Mr.Dow stated that the Director of Traffic Services had considered the units for this scheme having unpainted aluminium alloy bodies but it was noted that this would delay production and increase the initial costs.
Note - Subsequent to the above, a special meeting was arranged for July 21st at which it was hoped proposals would be completed.
(2) Great Central line - 60 units would be required for this scheme of the same design as the units for the St.Pancras scheme. The Chairman stressed the necessity for this scheme to be introduced immediately following the introduction of the St.Pancras scheme and asked for the full submission to be made quickly.
