731.  RAIL BUSES FOR RURAL AREAS  (Contd.)

(ii)  Bedford - Hitchin - Northampton services

Mr.Johnson stated that, the rail buses having proved unsatisfactory, arrangements had been made for them to be temporarily replaced by 2-car multiple unit sets until a decision was reached on the future of the passenger train services of the two branches.  The case for the withdrawal of the Bedford-Northampton service would shortly be submitted to the General Manager, and that for the Bedford - Hitchin service was nearing completion.

The future of the three rail buses at present in Wolverton works awaiting repair was considered, and it was decided that departments which may be interested be approached as to possible use of the buses, and the matter be further considered at the next meeting.

733.  SCHEMES AUTHORISED BUT NOT YET IN OPERATION

1.  St.Pancras Suburban Services

(a) Introduction of Service

Noted it had been decided to defer the introduction of the full diesel multiple unit service from January 4th to January 11th, 1960.

The circumstances under this decision had been taken were fully discussed, and it was stated that all departments concerned were satisfied that all facilities would be available for the commencement on January 11th, the present off-peak service being operated from the then new shed from January 4th.  Mr.Lawrence said there had been virtually no public reaction to the deferment of the full service.

At the conclusion of the discussion on this item the Chairman said that should any similar cases arise it would be desirable for them to be dealt with by the Diesel Trains Committee.

(b) Cricklewood Maintenance Depot

Noted that submission approved by Area Board, but Commission approval still awaited.
