Class 129 Cravens Parcel DMU

Ordered for the London Midland Region only three of these vehicle were built, using a then non-standard coupling code so that they would be compatible on duties with 79xxx vehicles, particulary in West Cumberland.

Only one vehicle would be allocated to Carlisle, the other two were initially mainly used in the Birmingham area. In 1969 all three moved to Newton Heath depot in Manchester, in 1971 all moved again to Chester from where they were withdrawn by 1973.

One was used by the Railway Technical Centre for hydraulic transmission and brake testing.

None survive.
