Yellow Diamond Derby Lightweight DMU

In all 219 Derby Lightweight vehicles were built, sixteen were the Red Triangle Lightweights, two became the Battery Multiple Unit, the remaining 201 were these Yellow Diamond vehicles.

They were built for the North Eastern (9 sets, 28 vehicles), Eastern (26 sets, 52 vehicles) and London Midland (61 sets, 121 vehicles) Regions, in time some vehicles also spend a short period allocated to the WR and ScR.

Later builds of DMU had a more advanced control system meaning these sets were non-standard and destined for early withdrawal, with the last withdrawn from passenger use in 1969.

The design evolved into the Class 108 with the blue square control system and updated ends.

Some vehicles saw departmental use, and three cars survived into preservation.
