Unknown Date

British Railways (Derby Lightweight) single unit (DMBS) railcar M79900 at Banbury Merton Street station with a service for Buckingham - c.1958. Remarkably this railcar survives to this day, having been rebuilt as test coach "Iris", based at Bletchley and numbered 975010 in the departmental series. Its last years of service were with the Research Centre at Derby where it was again repainted into lined green livery. It is now preserved at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. 53A Models of Hull Collection.

A 2-car Class 108 DMU in lined green livery sits at Banbury Merton Street station with a service to Buckingham. The station had lost it's overall roof in the 1950's and it remained open to passengers until 1961. The site of the station is now a housing estate, although the portion of dock for the siding to the right of the DMU remained in situ until the housing estate was built in 2005. David Lawrence.

Unknown Date

This was the view around the back of Banbury North signalbox on 25 January 1986 as an unidentified class 115 DMU approached Banbury station following a reversal in the siding on the extreme left of the picture. The train would have left London Marylebone to where it would shortly return. The GWR marshalling yard, once operated on the "hump basis", was officially closed in 1970 although it still received and despatched a small amount of traffic in the 1980s until the land was sold for housing development. The Great Central Railway's Banbury Branch joined the GWR opposite the signalbox. Peter Tandy.
