This is thought to be 52028 / set 107 427, carrying a relatively short lived livery variation of large ScotRail branding and the Haymarket depot emblem (normally placed on centre cars). Seen at Kilmarnock on the day of the 1988 open day, September 11th. Andrew McConnell.

The old & the new at Kilmarnock Open Day on 11-09-88. Classic dmu traction (101364 53242 and presumably 59080 + 53268) alongside to date the only visit of a class 318 emu (from the neighbouring Ayr - Glasgow line) to Kilmarnock station. However these emus were all refurbished in 2005 - 06 in the nearby Barclay works. Gordon Thomson.

120534 at Kilmarnock on 12-05-1989. This was not long before the introduction of class 156 'Sprinters' when just about any type of unit could be found on Strathclyde services. The class 120s were superior to most it has to be said. Pity none were preserved. Gordon Thomson.

107728 (presumably 51988 + 59786 + 52013) departing Kilmarnock with the 12:54 to Glasgow Central, 22-08-89. Classic d.m.u. traction for the Killie - Glasgow service, not long before the Sprinters took over. The line from here to Barrhead (with a loop at Lugton) was stupidly singled in 1974. It was re-doubled between Stewarton and Lugton in 2008 / 09 and now a half hourly service to operates from Kilmarnock to Glasgow. The former line to Dalry passed under the bridge on the left.
