115 DMU

A Class 115 DMU leaving London Marylebone station. No date, but in the early NSE era so circa late 1980s. Ian Docwra.

101 DMU

Hybrid set 101321 at Paisley Gilmour Street circa late 1986. The DMBS is 51249, if the centre car is the regular then it should be 59542, the blue DMS on the rear is Class 104 53491. Ian Docwra.

104 DMU

Class 104 DMS 53491 on the rear of two Class 101 vehicles departing from Paisley Gilmour Street circa late 1986. The DMBS at the far end is 51249 (set 101321) and so the centre car presumably 59542. Ian Docwra.

122 DMU

The former 55015 now TDB977177 is seen at Paisley Gilmour Street circa late 1986. Ian Docwra.

105 DMU

A tri-coloured unit, with a Cravens car at the buffers. Note the scrawled (or taped on?) unit number. Glasgow Central, circa late 1986 or early 1987. The vehicles are presumably 51269 (class 105) + 59793 (class 107) + 53647 (class 120). Ian Docwra.

blue-pullman DMU

The Manchester Central-London St Pancras 'Midland Pullman' passes the south end of Gowhole yard at 08.10hrs during June 1962, having stopped at Cheadle Heath some 15 minutes ago it's next stop will be the capital. Andrew J Crowther.

104 DMU

A rather dark photograph taken on a rather dark January day at 16.55hrs and certainly on a dark day for the railways in the area too. A Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon built class 104 and a Derby class 108 dmu stands at Hayfield station, situated at the end of the 2.5 mile branch from New Mills Central on the penultimate day of railway operations, 3rd January 1970. The track bed is now know as the popular Sett Valley Trail. Andrew J Crowther.

100 DMU

A two car Gloucester RC&W 1957 built class 100 dmu making it's way towards Manchester Piccadilly, is captured between Strines and Marple crossing the River Goyt on the Roman Lakes viaduct, 15th March 1970. Andrew J Crowther.

114 DMU

A Derby 1956 built class 114 dmu forming a Sheffield-New Mills Central local service ascends the 1-in-96 gradient as it drifts through the snow on the Down Slow line in Buxworth Cutting on 15th February 1969. Andrew J Crowther.

108 DMU

Manchester Central seen full of many Class 108 sets on 5 May 1969, two dats before closure. Andrew J Crowther.

115 DMU

One of the six Allerton allocated Derby 1960 built class 115 high density dmu's (the set number seems to read AN610) is captured arriving into the 9 platformed Manchester Central station, which was built by the Cheshire Lines Committiee, opening on the 1st July 1880 and closing on 5th May 1969. It has since been converted into an exhibition and conference centre, opening as G-MEX in 1986 and now renamed Manchester Central again. Andrew J Crowther.

108 DMU

Taken from the signal box at Manchester Central on 3rd May 1969 a 3x2-car DMU formation is captured leaving the station heading west. At least the two closest sets are Class 108/104 hybrids, the Class 104 DMBS in the centre set has yellow cab doors. Manchester Central would close two days after this picture was taken, today Metrolink trams run where the dmu is. Andrew J Crowther.

108 DMU

A Chester-allocated Class 108 power twin, 53933 and presumably 51566, circa 1983, at Wrexham Central. Stuart Pearce.

101 DMU

The driver of class 101 DMU set C801 (presumably 51446 + 51517) is just about the change ends after arrival at Pembroke Dock on 22/04/85 with train 2B00 the 05.50 from Whitland. As the first train of the day down the branch it will return as the 07.12 to Swansea. Adrian Nicholls.

101 DMU

A brace of 2-car class 101 'Met-Cam' DMU's are seen soon after arrival at Whitby with the 11.15 from Darlington on 24/08/85. They will return as the 14.22 service back to Darlington over the Esk Valley line. Adrian Nicholls.

108 DMU

Buxton allocated DMU set BX372 (52056 + 59148 + 53930), a class 108/104 hybrid, stands at the old Morecambe station on the promenade with train 1H51 the 14.55 to Stockport on 02/06/88. This station closed on 07/02/94 when a smaller two platform station opened closer to the town centre but in doing so reduced the length of the branch by 17ch (nearly ¼ mile). Adrian Nicholls.

101 DMU

On 19/03/86 Newcastle Central station shunting pilot 03 063 sits in the carriage sidings under the man train shed roof alongside a class 101 DMU, while in the platform sits new Railbus set 143 012 waiting departure with the 16.25 to Carlisle. Adrian Nicholls.

117 DMU

With passengers off the train for a photo stop and leg stretch at Onllwyn the crew change ends on the Monmouthshire Railway Society 'Maerdy Gras' railtour on 20/04/85. The train was formed of two class 117 DMU sets L423 & L407 with single car class 121 set L121 sandwiched in the middle. The inclusion of this additional power car worked well on the steeper freight lines into the Western Valleys as previous DMU tours had often struggled with adhesion issues loosing lots of time in the process. When this image was taken the closed Onllwyn station to the rear of the train was still fairly intact with an island platform but it had closed on 15/10/62 with the withdrawal of the Neath to Brecon passenger service. Adrian Nicholls.
