117 DMU

Not a great image but a rare shot of a Class 117 set in blue with just a small yellow panel. Taken near Paddington on 9-3-67. David Faircloth.

Ncrwich Cravens set 56 heads away from Sheringham on 23-5-83. David Faircloth.

116 DMU

Class 116 set TS522 in Derby station in 1985. The two power cars should be 53109 and 53078. David Faircloth.

Two 2-car newly completed Met-Camm sets at Saltley ready for delivery on July 26th 1957. The nearest vehicle, DTC E56071, carries displays in the windows noting it is the 250th railcar built for British Railways. The vehicles were destined for Sunderland depot. Metropolitan Cammell.

109 DMU

A brand new E50415 outside the works at Wickhams in Ware in June 1957. It is displaying the manufacturer's name on the destination blind. Wickham.

derby-lightweight DMU

A Derby Lightweight sits in the bay platform at Wickford Junction, circa early 1957 with a Southminster service. DTC E79252 is closest, presumably with DMBS E79036. They had been delivered to Norwich and transferred to Stratford in September 1956. On the left an EMU enters with a Down train, the Shenfield to Southend had just recently been electrified. British Railways.

116 DMU

The rear half of ex Tyseley TMD Class 116 DMBS M53077 lies on the ground at Vic Berry's Yard, Leicester on Sunday 5th June 1988 unlikely to see another weekend as a line of withdrawn vehicles look on. The blue and grey coach to the left is a fellow Class 116, the next is a blue Class 104 and I think the one to the right is a Class 501 EMU vehicle. Finally half of an unknown Class 116 coach lies behind M53077. Bob Woolnough.

116 DMU

The end is nigh for ex Tyseley Class 116 DMBS M53077 as the front half of the body rests on the ground alongside an empty skip in Vic Berry's Yard, Leicester on Sunday 5th June 1988. The rear portion of DMBS M53077 is visible on the ground looking through the drivers window. The blue DMU coach on the left of the image, Class 104 DTCL M54177, is interesting as most publications have her scrapped in March 1988 whereas she obviously was still complete in June of that year. Bob Woolnough.

derby-lightweight DMU

An official British Railways image (Eastern Region Negative AC472) which had a caption "Damaged Diesel Rail-Car at Stratford C. & W. Works. (Photographed specially for the use of C.M. & E.E. Department Derby)". It is dated August 5 1959 and shows a Derby Lightweight DTC undergoing cab end repairs. This is presumably after collision damage, with the twisted solebar and twist in the front of the bogie, the actual incident unknown. British Railways.

101 DMU

2 stripped out Class 101 TCL vehicles are stacked in Vic Berry's yard in Leicester along with a withdrawn Mark 1 Sleeping Car on the 5th June 1988. In the foreground is Class 101 TCL SC59568 in blue / grey livery formerly of Eastfield TMD Glasgow, and latterly the centre vehicle in set 101338, while sitting on top of it is TCL SC59560 in Strathclyde orange / black livery formerly of Ayr MPD and latterly the centre vehicle in set 107440. The last three digits of the sets are visible on the bottom right of the vehicle ends. Bob Woolnough.

116 DMU

The stripped out front half of Class 116 DMBS M53070 awaits it's fate in a very tidy Vic Berry's Scrapyard, Leicester on Sunday 5th June 1988. Formerly allocated to Tyseley MPD, Birmingham she had been withdrawn during March 1988 and looked like she wouldn't see the end of the week. Bob Woolnough.

116 DMU

Instamatic Interludes. Derby Suburban DMBS sits quietly at Kilmacolm, waiting to form the 16:03 service to Glasgow Central. No passengers visible, perhaps a portent of the ill winds to come. However, passengers weren’t likely to take a train into town at this time as there were no return services from Glasgow beyond early evening. Nearest is DMBS Sc50090 which looks to be reasonably fresh out of works and doesn’t seem to have a destination blind fitted. Despite displaying Set 128, the other vehicles are 107 TS Sc59805 (all blue) and 107 DMS Sc52017. Saturday 04 August 1979. alicia hartman.

107 DMU

With less than a week to go before closure, Class 107 triple awaits turnaround at Kilmacolm and the next rain shower! Three car sets were the generally the norm on off peak services but six car sets were used in the peaks or, indeed, the last ever arrival and departure. Tuesday 04 January 1983. alicia hartman.

105 DMU

A scan of a water damaged print showing a Cravens twin set with DTC Sc56465 closest at Craigellachie, date unknown. The GNoSR footbridge has boards listing the destinations from the platform, the left side reads "Platform 2 for Elgin, Lossiemouth Inverness and the North". The DMU is in platform 1 and is likely on a service bound for Aberdeen. A third platform off to the left was for the Speyside branch, for several years operated by diesel railbuses to Aviemore. Stuart Mackay Collection.
