Details

The driver looks-back as passengers alight and board Cravens Class 105 Driving Motor Brake Second M50755, as it was stood at Bolton as the lead car of a Kirkby - Wigan Wallgate - Manchester Victoria service on June 23rd 1979. Note the model of the Isle of Man steamer in a glass case, visible on the extreme right of this scene. These models were a feature at the stations of both Bolton and Blackburn at the time - now sadly gone. The Cravens Power-Twin fleet based at Newton Heath Depot were a joy to behold. Run-down, noisy, but with well-sprung seats and a warm interior that smelled of diesel fuel. The degree of rattle from the metal interior fittings was dependent on engine revs and speed - and all topped-off with an interior that had green formica panels - Happy Days.
