A BRC&W driver trailer set departs from Sutton Park in October 1963. M56177 leads, presumably with long-term (and original) partner M50534. "2G" is painted on the bufferbeam the code for Ryecroft depot, a new code issued the previous month replacing 21F. Another recent change was the moving of the electrification warning flash from the lower cab to the window (instruction issued in September 1962). A four-car BRC&W DMU departing from Hull Paragon. With one of the visible vehicles in blue this is likely late 1960s. DMCL E50580 is closest, it was a Hull vehicle from new until 1975, after which it moved to Neville Hill where it remained until withdrawal in 1981. Graham Clark.
SC79036 + 79189 pass West Parade North Junction on the Scarborough line at Hull in May 1968. Officially withdrawn (from Leith Central in June 1967), they were in route learning use, possibly based at York. Seen at lunchtime on their return from the coast, these route learners were a regular feature in the Spring months for several years: they originated in West Yorkshire and took men over the route to Brid and Scarborough in preparation for the summer extras to the coastal resorts. A four-car Class 104 DMU decorated for some school specials / publicise the Scarborough line. The style was from the Ken Dodd show - he was in Scarborough for the season and made an appearance on the trains. Taken in Hull Paragon in June 1970. Note the frame fitted the lamp brackets, and the marker lamps seem to be be missing the glass (or are very clean!). Allan Dawson.

The Abbey Line (or St Albans Abbey Branch Line) runs from Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey railway station and the 6.5-mile route passes through both town and countryside. The 25kv electrified service is currently operated by London Midland class 321 units but on 7th February 1971, long before electrification, Bletchley-allocated Cravens unit No.50394 - 56146 forming a Watford to St Albans service drops a single passenger at Park Street and Frogmore station.
