A London Midland Region publicity image (negative DL2488) showing the inside of a new shed a Bletchley circa 1965. It contains a Class 24 and two Derby Lightweights. The readable numbers are M79654 and M79653 both being allocated there. The former came from Llandudno Junction in January 1965 and the other from Redditch the previous month. British Railways.

Derby Lightweight DTCL M79656 stored at Ipswich loco shed circa early 1970. For almost all its life it was an LMR vehicle, it would be transferred from Bletchley to Norwich - probably with 79133 in summer 1967 - it was withdrawn from that depot in October 1967 and would eventually be disposed of to the Bird Group at Long Marston in February 1973. It faces a Met-Camm "Lightweight". Tony Wilkins.

The shed had four twins from new in 1956, one would be withdrawn with accident damage, the remaining three including E79660 seen here would be transferred to Cambridge in June 1965. Michael Mensing.

With two window frames removed Derby Lightweight DTCL M79665 is seen stored at Ipswich loco shed circa early 1970. The vehicle was likely transferred from Bletchley to Norwich in summer 1967, it was withdrawn from that depot in October 1967 and would eventually be disposed of to the Bird Group at Long Marston in February 1973. The image is of 46501 with an engineers saloon but added as images of DMUs on Reddish Car Shops are rare, and Derby Lightweight trailer M79666 is seen to the right. Livery experiment. This official image (Derby Works negative 56/19) records a trial of warning markings on the front end of Derby Lightweight DTCL M79668 circa February 1956. The text on the rear of the print includes "despatched to Monument Lane for traffic Feb 7th 1956". The vehicle on the left, with "Derby Carr & Wagon Dept" on the destination blind suggests this was taken at that location. British Railways.

A Derby Works image (negative 56/429) showing Derby Lightweight construction work circa June 1956. The workers at the benches are working on electrical components, the first on a control box for the underframe that holds the BIS and fuses, at his feet are junction boxes for behind the drivers seat and the small boxes are air pressure switches for the final drives. Note under the desk by the second chap is a light box for testing the control wiring. Two vehicles are identifiable, M79684 which would be delivered to Bury in July 1956. Note the vehicle is lined but the drivers door is not (although it has had a PRIVATE transfer added), and still lacks seats inside. The DMBS it was to be built with was converted to one of the single cars for the Buckingham-Banbury service and one of these - M79900 - is seen behind it with Cresswell on the destination blind.
