Am SLS Special DMU train under Fforchdwm Viaduact at Garth Tonmawr on 1st July 1961. Image by Derek Chaplin. Now this is a very obscure location to find a DMU in South Wales, the line to Garth Tonmawr colliery. Fforchdwm viaduct built in 1840 to carry the Glyncorrwg Mineral Railway across the Plenna Valley. Apparently, it was blown up by the Army on 14/07/1979 as it was too dangerous a structure. It does not look too safe here in 1961. Peter Brabham Collection.

End of Days. The two remaining Swindon Inter-City Sets (126 406 and 413) have arrived at Glasgow Central with a Sunday working from Stranraer Harbour. Judging by the luggage this service had made a connection with the Sealink ferry from Larne. Sc51026 (126 413) is now standing at the head of Platform 9, ready to run out ECS once the passenger work is complete and tail lamp is removed. Probably Autumn 1982. alicia hartman.

The Last Summer. Derby Heavyweight DMU drifts into Houston and Crosslee on a summer afternoon. 107 431 is working a Kilmacolm to Glasgow Central service. No sign of any impending custom but the train did deposit several children on their way home from schoool. Monday 14 June 1982. alicia hartman.

A 3-car DMU smokes through Princes St Gardens in August 1987 on an Edinburgh to Glasgow via Falkirk Grahamston stopping service. Class 101 power cars SC51528 and 51534 are sandwiching class 104 TBS 59215, originally part of a 4 car set and which was reallocated north from Neville Hill in 1982 and withdrawn at the end of 1987. With the former British Aluminium Company works in the background, a hybrid Swindon / Met Camm set 53658 + 59571 + 53699 is seen leaving Burntisland on a stopping service from Kirkcaldy to Edinburgh in August 1987. Murray Liston.
