Whitby at 16.00 on 4 September 1971, the last Saturday of the summer season. The station is full of 101's waiting to form late afternoon and early evening trains returning to Middlesbrough. On the right, waiting to depart at 16.08, are (from l.to r.) 56061/51211 + 50246/50139. Leonard Rogers.

The BR organised Witney Wanderer at Witney on 31 October 1970, two days before the Fairford branch closed. It was a nine-car DMU formation, with W51409 from Class 117 set 420 closest. Stanley C Jenkins.

A GRC&W DMU on the newly inaugurated Liverpool (Central)-Warrington (Central) diesel service which began on 6th January 1958. Brunswick depot had nine of these sets from January 1958, they all moved to Ryecroft that June. Driver E. Harold is at the controls and on the platform are Messrs F. Walton, DOC Liverpool Central, A.M. Todd, DMPS Bank Hall, C.S. Longsdale, DMPS Edge Hill, G.V. Davies, SM Liverpool Central, MGE Lambert, Divisional Traffic Manager, and T.C. Byron, DPM. Members of the BTC Eastern Area Board and officers of the Eastern Region on the platform at Prittlewell on the Shenfield - Southend (Victoria) line on 15 January 1958. Behind is a Wickham DMU formed DMBS E50416 and presumably DTCL 56171, the set took them to several locations during their inspection tour. British Railways.
