DMU Operations: Western Region
Birmingham - Leamington Spa
DMUs were introduced to these services on 17 June 1957 along with other Western Region local services in the Birmingham area. Derby suburban triples (Class 116s) were used allocated to Tyseley depot.
The route was also served in the early days by through services from Wellington and Wolverhampton, and Leamington Spa was also served by London Midland Region services from Birmingham to Leamington Spa Avenue station.
In January 1963 the route became part of the London Midland Region.

Replaced on the Birmingham - South Wales route by Swindon Cross-Country DMUs, this Inter-City DMU is working the 1.20pm Birmingham Moor Street - Leamington Spa General service, seen leaving Acock's Green on 22 April 1959.
