Class 100 DMU

Built in two consecutive batches each of twenty power-trailer sets.

The first batch could be identified by a single top marker light, eleven of these were for the Manchester and Birmingham areas, the remainder were for the ScR intended for Edinburgh suburban services and the line from Edinburgh to Glasgow Central via Shotts.

The second batch, all for the ScR, could be identified by having just two lower marker lights.

They would later also work in the Newcastle area (briefly) and in East Anglia. Withdrawals started in 1972 and continued till 1988. Some vehicles went into non-passenger use and also into preservation.
