Class 101 DMU set B800 (presumably 51445 + 59549 + 51515) is seen in Southampton station with Gloucester Cross-Country set on 27 July 1976. Alistair Ness.
Class 101s Kinghorn Cutting, July 1965. This is my first proper train photograph taken when I was 7 years old. I'd been given a 120 medium format camera (I can't remember the make) for my birthday that April and I was hooked. It's such a pity now that I couldn't afford more rolls of film and, as we lived in Northern Ireland until I was 10, British Rail subject matter was sadly lacking apart from on our annual summer holiday visit to see my grandmother in Kirkcaldy. Alistair Ness.
Two Class 101s, Dalmeny, January 1969. You can almost feel the cold of this January day. When my parents friends came to visit they were invariably taken to see the Forth Bridges. To an 11 year old this was very boring as was an hour or so abandoned at Dalmeny to watch the trains - or lack of them. Back then it was much quieter than it is now and only DMUs to watch at that time on a Saturday afternoon. Alistair Ness.

A London Midland Region publicity image (negative D5547) showing a Derby suburban quad set with a Bedford service in Elstree station, date unknown. British Railways.
A Derby Works image (negative 56/429) showing Derby Lightweight construction work circa June 1956. The workers at the benches are working on electrical components, the first on a control box for the underframe that holds the BIS and fuses, at his feet are junction boxes for behind the drivers seat and the small boxes are air pressure switches for the final drives. Note under the desk by the second chap is a light box for testing the control wiring. Two vehicles are identifiable, M79684 which would be delivered to Bury in July 1956. Note the vehicle is lined but the drivers door is not (although it has had a PRIVATE transfer added), and still lacks seats inside. The DMBS it was to be built with was converted to one of the single cars for the Buckingham-Banbury service and one of these - M79900 - is seen behind it with Cresswell on the destination blind. British Railways.
A Derby Works image (negative 56/426) showing construction work underway on Derby Lightweights circa June 1956. The closest gentleman is assembling a destination blind wooden box, the second is working with the wiring for the jumper sockets. The first vehicle is unidentified but the second - with the cab and van at the same end and a full size window behind the van - can only be M79900. British Railways.
A rare colour Derby Works image showing a brand new Derby Heavyweight set formed of E56035 / E50035 which was new to Lincoln in March 1957. Location unknown, possibly on the Wirksworth branch as these images often were. Colour images from this period were often hand tinted black and white images but the quality in this suggests it was taken in colour. A B&W version does exits (negative 57/142). One thing of note is the gutters - in b&w images these always showed as being darker than the body and the assumption till now was that they were black. Here they are a dark green. British Railways.
A Rolls Royce image showing E50000/56000 on the Wirksworth branch circa early 1957, the power car being fitted with their engines. The image was used in a report they produced on cooling and performance tests done between Manchester Victoria-Rochdale and Carlisle-Skipton. Rolls Royce.
