101 DMU

On Thursday 31 July 1958 a diesel "land cruise" ran from Glasgow and Paisley carrying 900 holidaymakers to Largs, Ayr and Girvan. Four twin Met-Camm DMUs were used, here passengers are disembarking at Largs where they had an hour and a half to visit the sea front. British Railways.

The first land cruise by diesel train is seen preparing to leave Killin on Tuesday 29 July 1958. Formed of four twin sets, it had started in Glasgow Buchanan Street carrying about 500 passengers with the outward journey via Callander and returning via Crianlarich. British Railways.

Provost James Lannan gives the "all-clear" for Musselburgh's diesel service on the first day of the DMUs, 9th June 1958. To his right are A. Notes on the back of the original photo record that 50406 replaced 50320 in the set, the latter being subsequently paired with 56080. Anthony Griffiths.
