Ayr MPD allocated refurbished Class 101 Set No.172 is seen waiting for departure time in Ardrossan Harbour Station on the 3rd May 1978. Formed of DMBS SC51469 leading, TCL SC59557 intermediate, & DMCL SC51536 trailing she is forming a Boat Train service to Glasgow Central Station. The Clyde can be glimpsed through the opening on the right hand side of the image. Bob Woolnough.
In refurbished white with blue stripe livery, a two-car Class 101 DMU was approaching Settle Junction with a Leeds to Morecambe service on May 13th 1978. The blanked over top marker lamp means the DMBS should be from the small 50198-209 batch, and although the number cannot be fully read it appears to end in a 2, so this is presumably 50202, which was a Neville Hill vehicle at the time. A Class 101 formed of DMCL SC51524, TCL SC59562 and DMBS SC51467 call at a very peaceful Leuchars Station with an early afternoon service from Dundee to Edinburgh Waverley on the 15th May 1978. All had been refurbished in the white & blue colours and were allocated to Glasgow Eastfield MPD at this time running as Set 187. The central bay platform for the St Andrews branch which closed in January 1969 is clearly still visible. The white houses to the right of the image are part of the married quarters for RAF Leuchars which at this time was a very busy RAF Fighter Station. Bob Woolnough.

Thorne North, South Yorkshire, 8th June 1978. The line from Thorne Junction (on the Great Central Doncaster to Grimsby line) to Straddlethorpe Junction (on the Leeds to Hull line) was opened in 1869 by the North Eastern Railway. Thorne North is the first station & Goole is the second and only other station on this section. We were waiting for a train to Doncaster on the Up platform when this diesel multiple unit on a Hull service entered the Down. Pete LG99.
