Swindon 79xxx at Birmingham Snow Hill

2nd April 1958

W79089 at the front of a Swindon Inter-City DMU in Birmingham Snow Hill forming the 8.35pm to Wellington on 2 April 1958. The vehicles were fitted with brackets for coach letters by the outer passenger doors, but in this case the coach letters have been applied to the passenger windows. Michael Mensing.

Swindon 79xxx at Acock&amp;#039;s Green

22nd April 1959

Replaced on the Birmingham - South Wales route by Swindon Cross-Country DMUs, this Inter-City DMU is working the 1.20pm Birmingham Moor Street - Leamington Spa General service, seen leaving Acock's Green on 22 April 1959. Intermediate DMBSL W79089 leads the non-buffet set, it would move to Scotland in October. Michael Mensing.

Withdrawn Scottish Region DMU coaches no. Sc79089, Sc79100 & Sc79105, which used to work the Glasgow to Edinburgh services, await their fate outside Swindon Works, whilst on the right, Eastern Region Class 305 EMU no. 452 awaits overhaul before being returned to service.
