A Derby Lightweight sits in the bay platform at Wickford Junction, circa early 1957 with a Southminster service. DTC E79252 is closest, presumably with DMBS E79036. They had been delivered to Norwich and transferred to Stratford in September 1956. On the left an EMU enters with a Down train, the Shenfield to Southend had just recently been electrified. British Railways.
Derby lightweight DMU E79252 at Halesworth on the East Suffolk Line. A good view of the end of the adjacent power car. Note that the rectangular exhaust pipe does not meet the pipe on the other side above the gangway as many did. Phil Bevan.
The grounded body of Derby Lightweight 975014 (ex-79252) at Dundee West shed on 12 August 1969. It was being used as a staff mess room, by 1971 it had been reunited with its bogies and moved to Craigentinny, again as a staff mess room. David Mant.
Former Derby Lightweight DTCL DB975014 is sandwiched between a BR Mk.I catering vehicle and a Swindon 'Intercity' power car at the Mayer Newman scrapyard at Snailwell on November 29th 1980. It appears to have blacked out windows and an unusual style of number. Apparently after withdrawal in 1967 it (along with similar car DB975013), was used as Staff Mess coaches. A contemporary report at the time (Pennine Railway Society who visited Ely in November 1980), suggested that DB975014 was the last remaining original BR Green liveried DMU car on BR. There seems to be some mystery with this particular car, as DB975013 appears in some Ian Allan DMU books under 'Departmentals' in the early 1970's, however there is no reference to DB975014. However, according to the website 'Departmentals.com' the car had spells at Dundee and Edinburgh Craigentinny Depots as a Staff Mess facility. Martyn Hilbert.
