"Elliot" Track recording car From 3/59 to ?.
Preserved - more details.
The Wickham/Elliot track recording coach DB999507 seen at Neasden on 28 May 1960. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 44804 (17A) heads homeward with an unfitted coal train, whilst heading in the opposite (south-westerly) direction at Burton-on-Trent is Wickham's "Elliot Track Recording Coach" DB999507 - 28/09/1964. The 5MT was withdrawn from BR service in March 1968 and was scrappred by Draper's of Hull in June that year. After use by the RTC at Derby, the Wickham's car survives (as the sole example of that company's railbus production), and after a nomadic existence since preservation can now be found in regular passenger carrying use on the Lavender Line near Uckfield, East Sussex. This was an image of the APT components in the foreground but I am adding it because of Wickham/Elliot railbus RDB999507 behind. Note the emblem above the closest marker lamp and the wiper on the side window to the right. Taken at the Derby RTC, date unknown - it is in RTC red/blue livery but predates having the 'Laboratory 20' text on the bodyside. Stuart Mackay Collection.
