Despite succumbing to closure in September 1961, the platforms, station buildings and even the waiting shelter canopy were still intact at Cowbit on 24th October 1980, some two years before the line from March to Spalding closed completely. This Lincoln based Derby Heavyweight Class 114 DMU formed of cars E56043 & E50001 was working the 13.50 Cambridge - Doncaster local service, seen heading for its next stop at Spalding. In the early 1970s, the passenger service on the joint line was largely long distance loco hauled services, notably the Yarmouth - York, Newcastle - Norwich and Harwich - Manchester 'Boat Train' all used this route. In around 1974 DMUs took over being mainly supplied by Norwich and Lincoln depots, but occasionally Tyneside and Calder Valley sets would make appearances.
