The special DMU service run by BR for Coalville Open Day on Sunday 5th June 1983 was a splendid opportunity to travel along the Leicester-Burton Upon Trent freight line through my village of Kirby Muxloe which I did that afternoon. Earlier I photographed the 2 x 3 car Met Cam sets on the 0928 ex Burton from Gullet Lane bridge as it heads SE toward Leicester with the house rooves of Lime Grove & Wilshere Close on the left. Kirby Muxloe Station was just out of sight around the bend in the distance. There were a couple of DMU sets out, all reversing at Knighton South Junction as the direct north curve into Leicester London Road had been lifted years before. This line was originally double track & singled in the early 1970s, by now the remaining line had been slewed to the centre of the alignment.
