A Class 104 at Rufford Level Crossing (Ormskirk Line). Having called at Rufford with an Ormskirk to Preston service on May 11th 1988, the Class 104 can be seen in the distance accelerating away to the next stop at Croston, as in time-honoured fashion the traditional timber level crossing gates swing open to let the waiting traffic cross. This scene would be lost forever within six months as the old signalbox and crossing gates would be replaced by a portable cabin and lifting barriers in November 1988.
