On a grey mid-winter day, 30th December 1982, Honley station on the Huddersfield to Penistone line, plays host to two first generation diesel multiple units. Ours is Huddersfield-bound from Clayton West station on the branch from Shepley Junction while the Up line train is heading for Sheffield via Barnsley. Opened in 1850 by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway this was once a main line route but by 1982 it had been downgraded. Sadly it had a lot further down to go because today it is just single track so no more passing trains. The Clayton West branch closed completely 3 weeks after this visit.
