A three-car Derby built Class 116 DMU has arrived at Southminster on the 16.5 mile branch from Wickford May 1st 1980. Driving Motor Brake Second E50865 leads in this view looking towards the buffer stops. The station retained its run-round loop, as the branch was visited by nuclear flask trains servicing Bradwell Nuclear Power Station. Visible in this view is a distant shunting disc signal complete with yellow band. The branch was electrified in 1986 and is now known as the Crouch Valley Line.
