For the Rocket 150 celebrations in 1980 a three day cavalcade was held along the historic Liverpool & Manchester route between Bold Colliery and Rainhill station on May 24-26th 1980, when a procession of locomotives and rolling stock, entertained the crowds. To get the punters to and from Rainhill a motley collection of DMU sets was drafted in to form shuttle services from Manchester Victoria. Ignored by many in favour of the more exotic motive power on offer that day, a six-car lash up comprising of a Class 100 (DMBS M50350 leading), a Class 104 and a Class 108, was approaching Rainhill with another load of eager and expectant punters.
