Two class 101 triples, one in all-blue still and the other in "refurbished" livery, head away from the photographer, past Barnhill station on the left, travelling on the link from Springburn up to the old Caledonian main line out of Glasgow at St Rollox. This may be a Glasgow - Stirling working, diverted off the E&G main line by a reversal at Cowlairs. (No Cowlairs Chord in those days.) On this Sunday in early September 1978, engineering work on the main line meant that services out of Queen St were being diverted via Springburn and Cumbernauld. Nowadays the footbridge at the end of Flemington St from which this photo was taken no longer exists, the tracks on which the train is running are electrified and the linesides are a "jungle".
