The Class 126 diesel units built for the Ayrshire Coast and introduced in 1959 were designed so that they could be formed as 6-car trains with through gangways. The gangway connections were removed and panelled over from the 1970s to prevent draughts in the driving cab. One such carriage is seen here at Ayr on August 30, 1981.
