A 2-car class 108 DMU set is seen on the truncated Macclesfield, Bollington & Marple railway at Rose Hill Marple station. The line beyond the DMU used to run through to Macclesfield but closed on 05/01/1970 leaving just a mile long branch line at the northern end of the route from Marple Wharf Junction on the Manchester to Sheffield mainline. With Marple being within the Greater Manchester PTE boundary I suspect that is the reason this stretch survived when the remainder closed. The DMU set seen here had just arrived with service 2H50 the 12.50 from Manchester Piccadilly and after the driver changed would return as 2H53 the 13.46 back to Manchester Piccadilly.
