Details

With passengers off the train for a photo stop and leg stretch at Onllwyn the crew change ends on the Monmouthshire Railway Society 'Maerdy Gras' railtour on 20/04/85. The train was formed of two class 117 DMU sets L423 & L407 with single car class 121 set L121 sandwiched in the middle. The inclusion of this additional power car worked well on the steeper freight lines into the Western Valleys as previous DMU tours had often struggled with adhesion issues loosing lots of time in the process.

When this image was taken the closed Onllwyn station to the rear of the train was still fairly intact with an island platform but it had closed on 15/10/62 with the withdrawal of the Neath to Brecon passenger service.
